Every event we hold in church requires a safety team composed of several volunteers who help assure the safety of all participants. In addition to Sunday Masses, nearly every weekend in Lent this year has other liturgical celebrations scheduled, such as confirmations, first reconciliations, and weddings. Potential funerals would also require a safety team. With all these liturgies requiring a safety team, we simply cannot schedule weekly in-person Stations of the Cross without overtaxing our volunteers, or potentially endangering the health and well-being of parishioners.
Pandemic and safety protocols continue to be a challenge for us all. Perhaps during this holy season, we can bear these challenges as part of our Lenten sacrifice. And as we do so, we can pray for all those who have and continue to carry the much larger burden of being infected with the virus, caring for them, and mourning those who have died from this disease.
