One Book One Parish

Welcome to One Book One Parish 2019 for Saint Andrew Parish.

Every year, our community joins together in reading the same book together as a community, sharing in the insights and knowledge we gain from a spiritual author.

This year we are reading “Mercy in the City” by Kerry Weber.

Books have been distributed during Masses the first weekend of January. If you have not received a copy, let us know by emailing us at info@standrew.org and we’ll reserve a copy for you.

And this year, be sure to join in the conversation by listening to our weekly podcast. Each week one chapter of the book will be read on our podcast and discussed with parishioners.

For copyright reasons, the podcast is protected by password protection which we can give you upon your request. Email us at info@standrew.org. Behind the password protection, you can subscribe to the podcast via RSS Feed, iTunes, or Google Play. Ready to listen? Go to the Podcast now!

About the book:

Have you ever heard of the Corporal Works of Mercy? Those instructions from the Church about helping those in need? You know, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty? What would it be like to do all of those in the course of 40 days, while not quitting your day job? Possible? Impossible? Here is one woman’s journey and transformation that took place practicing Christian virtues while dealing with the day to day situations of modern life.

About the author:

Kerry Weber is a Mercy Associate and managing editor of America magazine. She is alumna of the Mercy Volunteer Corps of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She lives in New York City.

I found the book relatable and easy to read. I could pick it up and finish a chapter on my way to work on the el and after each time I put it down, I wanted to pick it back up again. It shows how simple every day actions can make a difference in your life.” – Jennifer, a parishioner.

One Book One Parish is a gift to parishioners from Saint Andrew Parish. The book is chosen by the Faith Formation Commission which meets four times a year to assist and advise the pastor and staff in the faith formation needs and approaches for parishioners.
